Season Finals at Road Atlanta

The season began the way it ended … rainy. In fact, heavy rain at Road Atlanta is more boating than driving. About 1/3 of all Prototype Lites crashed in one of the sessions on this weekend, many of them in the infamous esses that had a river running across the track. But conditions were the same for everyone. Darwin’s principle in its purest form. After a few adjustment on my racing line, thanks to my coach Colin Braun, I actually managed a very decent qualification time which was pretty much the only session in the dry. My margin to the pole was the smallest in the entire season. Race 1 started very good and I could pull out a gap between me and the group behind me which was unfortunately erased when we had a full course yellow. Things ran great until an unfortunate move of a competitor that punted me off the track in Turn 10a. I was able to get back but lost 5 positions. So, the second race was crucial. I needed only 6 points to secure the 3rd place in the overall championship. As predicted it was heavy rain and anything can happen in the rain. My goal was to keep my nose clean and the shiny side up. Hence, I drove the most conservative race of my career. As forecasted, a total of 6 cars didn’t make it but I was able to keep it clean and secured my 3rd overall position in the Masters championship. Extremely happy for the result which I would have never predicted in the beginning of the season. Special thanks also to Colin Braun my coach, who taught me a lot this season and to Simon Shepard and Ed that always prepared a perfectly running car. Trophy
