Race 11 and 12 at Virginia International Raceway
Last week we had the opportunity to drive as the support race for NASCAR at Virginia International Raceway. Hence we had a lot of fans coming out and we had to deal with the rather unusual North track configuration. It’s a relatively short track with 18 turns on 1.5 miles and a 0.6 mile kind of a straight. With 90F heat and 92% humidity I predicted it to be a physically demanding race. And so it was. I began the weekend with very promising practice times but was bitterly disappointed during qualification when a faulty compressor didn’t allow me to shift anymore after lap 1. As a result I had basically no fast lap and had to start both races almost from the last row. From there on it just had to go up. In both races I had a fantastic start and could catch a few cars already before turn 1. Again, in both races we did the entire distance at green, not one single full course yellow. This played to my advantage since I could pick up one car after the other to finish 3rd and 2nd in the mater class. Thanks to my mechanic Simon and Ed the car work flawlessly and I left tired but very happy with two podium finishes.
