IMSA Road Atlanta Prototype Lites Race
The last two races of the season were held at the famous Road Atlanta circuit. One of my favorite tracks. It came down to three people that could get second in the overall championship on this weekend. After a relatively good qualifying run I had some issues getting the car going at the start and lost several positions before turn 1. The radio didn’t work from lap 1 on and hence I didn’t hear the green flag call. The next few laps were all about catching up and getting back to where I started. After 5 laps I fought back to my spot and began gaining positions until 20 min before the end when the nail biter started. We had an accident and the pace car got out. While behind the pace car I experienced gearbox failure and was stuck in 6th gear. When the green flag fell we had only 10min to go. Fortunately, I figured out how to drive the car around the track in only 6th gear and only lost 14-15sec per lap. Enough to keep my position and finished 2nd and race and 2nd in overall Masters Championship. One lap longer and I would have lost out on the top 3. Gotta be lucky sometimes 😉
